In the dissertation the histories and literary languages of Västerbotten and New England are read across each other, in the company of writings by the poet and literary theorist Susan Howe. The research asks which aspects of the regions’ literatures and languages arise when read through each other, by way of Howe’s texts. Can these aspects be read and written as concerted resonances? If so, then what are the characteristics of those resonances, and what might mediating and performing them add, or change? Through artistic literary methods, including performance writing, translational writing, and punning, the regions’ cross-resonating textualities are diffractively written through. With a hope to unsettle hegemonic settler colonial historical linguistics, the work seeks to listen to, and to write within, the unquiet.
